In the outtakes, you can see how a lower-contrast look doesn’t work for the image. As with DSLRs and other cameras and equipment, the phone camera wants to balance the exposure of my image to 18 percent gray—so getting a correct exposure requires being smarter than the camera. After a little work in the Filterstorm app, pulling down the midtone segment of the S curve, I had an image that I would proudly display in my home. Perhaps I might even tip my cap to Ansel as I walk by or as friends admire the photograph.
